Save the Date!

Even though he’s been with us for two months now, Pastor Jim still needs to be formally “installed” as the spiritual leader of our church.

The date of the installation has been set for 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, to be followed by a reception and dinner in the L room.  The Rev. Sheldon Culver, presiding conference minister for the Illinois South Conference of the United Church of Christ, will be the guest preacher as well as the one who will conduct the installation.

Installation is a formal rite of the United Church of Christ. It is designed to confirm and celebrate the covenant between a local church and a newly called pastor, as well as to reaffirm the covenantal relationship of all the churches in the Conference.

To that end, it is UCC tradition that installations are scheduled on a date other than Sunday morning so that other area ministers and lay leaders from other churches may attend to show their support for St. John.

More information will be forthcoming for the service and the dinner afterward, all of which will be coordinated by Nancy Eisenhauer, as one of her last acts as chairman of the Search Committee.
